Question: Is your name really Shakespeare, or are you just using that name to get attention? Read on . . . |
I was born Debra Joy Shakespeare in Independence, Missouri, where I've basically lived all of my life. I worked as a secretary before my two children were born, then stayed home for several years to raise them. During that time, my mom actually came up with the idea for me to submit a story to a magazine. From there the idea grew. I've now been published in over 30 magazines. From magazines came the jump to books. In 1987, I had my first book published, Diary of a First Class Jerk. Then in 1989, I had a small reader published, Wanted: Large Anteater. As you can tell by the titles, I like writing stories with humor in them. Currently I work as a secretary at an elementary school. Not only do I enjoy the job, but it offers great ideas for stories. I have always recevied encouragement by my family, so it wouldn't be fair not to recognize my wonderful children, Brian and Jennifer; my husband, Larry; and parents, Charles and Alice Shakespeare. I can also add three step-children and nine grandchildren to my fan club! And, of course, my very most favorite dog, Barney. Thank you all for your support. Now you know that I was born with the name Shakespeare, and that I'm not just using a make believe name on my books. But I do use that name to get attention, since I'm very proud of it. Now meet my family, who I'm also very proud of. |
